Holidays in Dalaman - What We Know

Dalaman is located on the warm south-western coast of Turkey. A short distance to the south is Fethiye and the Mediterranean Sea or “turquoise coast”. One of the great things about Turkey is that it is just outside the euro zone that means you get more bang for your buck (or pound as it turns out). The euro has made travelling to Europe much more expensive so if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, a holiday to Turkey could be the place to go before the euro consumes this country too!

Dalaman is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty and is protected by the Turkish government to maintain the environment. Clearly an area that a government deems fit to protect is a pretty special location. One quirky fact about Dalaman is that it has a train station built there that was meant to be built in Alexandria, Egypt. The materials were shipped to the wrong location and it was so costly to ship them back that they ended up just building the train station in Dalaman instead... however there aren’t actually any trains that run through it. On your holiday to Dalaman you have to swing by and check out this unusual piece or architecture.

Dalaman is renowned for its spectacular natural scenery. The beaches in the resort are unspoilt with clear waters and fine sand. The most popular beach in the Dalaman area is Olu Deniz (Dead Sea) with crystal clear Mediterranean waters and pale sands. Sarsala Beach is closer, located just 8 km from Dalaman. The Iztuzu Beach or “The Turtle Beach” is also worth visiting in the neighbouring resort of Dalyan. Going on an adventure and getting lost in the vast natural area around Dalaman is well worthwhile, stumbling across a deserted beach all to yourself and having a picnic may well be one of your holiday highlights.

If you fancy a slightly different perspective, why not jump on a boat to explore the coastal waters in the region? The local Turkish boats are called Gulets and most people are quick to realise that their holiday in Dalaman will not be complete without taking a boat trip or two. They are the best way of exploring the beautiful coast line and the outlying islands. There are many secluded beaches suitable for swimming that can only be reached by boat.
